Warfighter Syndrome, What is it ?
I haven't heard the term used before but I wanted to create a term that encompasses all of the symptoms a warfighter might experience. From Oct. 7, 2001- August 30, 2001 the United States has been at war. That equals 19 years, 10 months, 3 weeks and 2 days we have been involved in war. 1.9 million service members served during that time, some back back with severe injuries and others came back with non visible scars. There are 50,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed in active duty and veterans. Wait times at the VA are at an all time high, but let's discuss more of the symptoms warfighters experience.
Symptoms:
Traumatic Brain Injury or TBI
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD
Anxiety
Depression
Joint Pain
Back Pain
Sleep Apnea
Sleep Disturbances
Neuroendocrine Issues
Asthma
Lung Issues
Cancer
Gulf War Syndrome
Vaccine Injuries
Hearing Issues
Ringing in the Ear
Headaches
Hypervigilance
Cognitive Impairments
Substance Abuse
Toxic Exposures
These are just some of the symptoms warfighters can experience, it is very important to report any new symptoms to your care provider. It is also important to find a care provider that understands these symptoms, but also one that listens to you. Gaslighting is a huge issue within the Military medical community, you are the patient and need to be heard. I am currently working to get approved to accept Tricare Select as a care provider, stay tuned for details !
